An authored or co-author of approximately 1,000 publications (books, professional papers, magazine articles, geological maps, and abstracts), contributed to nearly 100 books, mapped >700 square miles of complex geological terrain, presented >400 lectures and talks and has been presented >100 awards (national, international and regional) for his work and research.

 

He made many new mineral discoveries and was inducted into the National Rock Hound & Lapidary Hall-of-Fame for his geological contributions. Some of his work resulted in the discovery of the Rattlesnake Hills gold district (greenstone belt), the Donlin Creek gold deposit (7 geologists including Hausel were awarded the PDAC Thayer Lindsley Award of Economic Geology for a major international gold discovery for this work), dozens of previously unrecognized gold anomalies, three major iolite depositssix ruby and sapphire deposits, several diamond deposits, large jasper and agate deposits, onyx deposits,fire opal deposit with considerable common opal, agate and lesser precious opal, and many other gemstone discoveries including kyanite, apatite, clinozoisitegarnet, diopside and more. He also completed historical projects related to mining history, the 1872 diamond hoax, and the origin of Okinawan Karate and Kobudo.

 

A martial artist and martial arts instructor of note. Dan hausel has been inducted into several Halls-of-Fame and awarded the highest rank  possible for Okinawan karate and is a former Professor of Martial Arts from four universities.
